For leaders who’ve built businesses too important to fail — your legacy deserves the same care as your company.

Our mission: acquire and operate a single mission-critical company in the logistics, software, or government technology & services industries.

Our Philosophy

Focused on your legacy and your employees

You didn’t build just a company—you built a foundation others depend on. Therefore, we are focused on ensuring your company culture continues to thrive and prioritizing the well-being and growth of your dedicated employees.

Adaptable to your transition goals

Selling your company is deeply personal, and some owners want to stay involved with their life’s work. As partners, we aim to present fair and adaptable deal structures, tailored to create a mutually beneficial outcome aligned with your specific goals.

Built for long-term growth

We’re not in the business of flipping companies for a quick buck. We believe that the best, most enduring businesses are built over the course of decades.

We’re not for everyone

If you’re looking for the biggest payout possible, you’re better served by selling to a private equity or strategic buyer. Here at Refracted, we are looking for a business aligned with our mission and values.

Meet the Team

  • Founder and Managing Partner

I’ve built my career at the intersection of military service and private entrepreneurship. Through Refracted, I’m bringing these two worlds together: the discipline and service mindset of the Marine Corps with the entrepreneurial creativity to acquire and grow a single great business.

Military: After graduating from Harvard, I became the first in my family to serve in the U.S. military. As a Captain in the Marine Corps, I’ve led overseas operations in the Marine Corps and on behalf of Special Operations Command across South America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. I continue to serve as a logistics officer in the reserves (with a promotion to Major in 2026).

Entrepreneurship: After roles at Capital One, Visa, Rebellion Defense, and a venture-backed transportation software startup, I founded a software company that built AI-powered workflows for government sales teams. I continue to advise startups and businesses on how to grow their federal or state government client base.

Education: I earned my MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2023 and my B.A. from Harvard University (Statistics, Government) in 2013.

My wife, dog, and I currently live in Brooklyn, NY where you’ll find me training for marathons and trying to transition from a lifetime of tennis to pickleball.

  • Supporting Family

My wife MJ and I were neighbors in Washington, DC. We met while I worked at the Pentagon and she attended Georgetown School of Foreign Service. A global pandemic and several years of long distance later, we got married in October 2024 (after which I promptly deployed to the Middle East…I still owe her a honeymoon to Patagonia).

MJ is the founder of Integral Health, a mental health technology startup. She too is a military veteran (Surface Warfare Officer in the Korean Navy).

Our dog Hoochu (“Pepper” in Korean) is three years old and is obsessed with fetch, swimming, and interrupting video calls when we work from home. He doesn’t know he’s adopted yet.

Our Process

  • We’ll arrange a 30 minute call to learn about one another and dive into your goals for your business. The information you share is always confidential. We are always excited to meet and learn from successful entrepreneurs.

Goal: Understand if there is a mutual fit and discuss potential next steps.

  • Here, we will focus on better understanding your business and will ask for limited data such as recent financial results and key successes. This aids in determining initial valuation. All information shared will be protected and kept confidential under an NDA.

This stage often lasts 15-45 days.

Goal: Presentation of a non-binding indication of interest (IOI).

  • Our team will come visit you to better understand your business, conduct diligence face-to-face, and help explain next steps and requirements for the process.

Goal: Better understanding of one another and solidified desire to receive / submit a letter of intent (LOI)

  • We will agree on terms of the transaction with a goal to solidify price and structure that is favorable for all stakeholders. As needed, we will explore debt and potential seller financing if appropriate.

Goal: Signed LOI and outline of confirmatory diligence process.

  • During this stage, we will engage a team of advisors to help complete the required diligence (e.g., legal, accounting, etc.).

Often this is a complex and time-consuming process, during which we promise transparency, efficient communication, and empathy.

This stage typically lasts around 75 days.

Desired Outcome: Finalized diligence, purchase agreement, and transition plan.

  • Sign final legal documents, wire funds to you and others as needed, and celebrate (!).

    Goal: Implement transition plan.

We’re backed by an elite team of investors and entrepreneurs.

Let’s meet!
